Digging

l like digging for poems in the natural world and enjoyed entering the national Moorland Plant Poetry competition run by the Moorland Discovery Centre.

I was delighted when two of my poems won the Adult section but the real prize was seeing the Centre’s imaginative display of poetry and plants.

All the short-listed poems were engraved on copper plates which were fixed to a variety of old garden tools and placed beside the relevant plant in a raised display bed. They’d even managed to put my deliberately ‘tall’ poem about Soft Rush –  Juncus effusus – onto the length of an old saw!
